James Lang: Getting Published and Getting Read

Whether you are working on your next book project or your first book proposal, a deeper understanding of the book publishing process and how to create a platform for your writing can benefit your scholarly work.

The Faculty Hub invites all faculty to a professional development opportunity on Getting Published and Getting Read - Friday, January 6 from 12 to 1 pm (on Zoom) with Dr. James Lang, author of many books, including Small Teaching: Everyday Lessons from the Science of Learning and Distracted: Why Students Can’t Focus and What you Can Do About It. Lang has experience with a diversity of publishing options; he has three books from top university presses, three from trade publishers, and a textbook from W.W. Norton. He has also worked with Derek Krissoff, incoming director of West Virginia University Press, to launch a new BOOK SERIES ON TEACHING AND LEARNING IN HIGHER EDUCATION (now co-edited with Michelle Miller) and participated in every part of the publishing process, from recruiting authors and acquiring manuscripts to developmental editing and creating marketing plans. The series now includes 19 published titles and many more in the works. Based on his vast experiences from all sides of the book publishing process, he will provide insights on getting published and his tips for promoting and marketing your work. There will be plenty of time for questions and conversation.
