Copyright gives authors extraordinary powers to decide where, when, and how to share their work. Scholarly authors in particular are working in a world where new approaches to publishing create opportunities to choose what kind of an impact you want your work to have and who will be able to find and use it. Publishers can be powerful allies, and they may even hold the keys to promotion and tenure, but only you can make the best choice for yourself about how to use your copyrights. So before you sign another agreement with any publisher (or platform), join Brandon Butler, a copyright expert, on Zoom for an overview of your rights as an author and some strategic choices you should consider before you sign (or click) on the dotted line.
