Rethinking Assessments: Fresh Approaches for Today’s Classroom

With so much changing in education, now’s the perfect time to rethink how we assess student learning. From cultivating student belonging and engagement, to harnessing generative AI tools, to rediscovering the joy of teaching, effective assessment design has never been more important. By reevaluating how we assess students, we can foster more inclusive and meaningful learning experiences that adapt to the changing landscape of higher education.
Join the Faculty Hub for Rethinking Assessments: Fresh Approaches for Today’s Classroom - a morning devoted to reevaluating and reenvisioning the assessment strategy for one or more of your courses. This session will be divided into three parts:
- Adapting Your Assessment Strategy for the Age of Generative AI (10-11am)
- Introduction to Alternative Assessment: Ungrading, Contract Grading, Specifications Grading (11-12pm)
- Lunch time discussion with colleagues who have been experimenting with alternative assessment methods (12-1pm)
We hope participants will leave this session with new ideas for how they might modify their assignments or restructure their assessment approach for one (or more) of their spring courses. This session will be co-facilitated by Andrew Bell (Faculty Hub) and Kylie Korsnack (Faculty Hub), and will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch will be provided.
