AI and the Future of Scholarship: A Faculty Conversation

Mon, Oct 26, 2026, 12:00 – 1:15 PM EDT
Faculty Hub - Third Floor of Boatwright Library

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how research is conducted, evaluated, and shared. From AI-generated research papers to agentic systems capable of carrying out increasingly complex research tasks, these developments raise fundamental questions about the future of scholarship and the role of human expertise.

What does it mean to be a scholar when AI can participate in so many aspects of the research process? How might these technologies change the way we develop ideas, conduct research, and evaluate scholarly contributions? And what should we be excited—or concerned—about?

Join colleagues for an informal lunch conversation about the implications of AI for research and scholarship across disciplines. Rather than focusing on specific tools or applications, we'll explore the larger questions these developments raise for our work as scholars and for the University.

No AI expertise or prior experience is necessary. We welcome curious, skeptical, enthusiastic, and critical perspectives
